The series presents portraits of young people living in the city of Vladikavkaz, Republic of North Ossetia, Russian Federation. The series covers the time period from 2017 to 2020 and is an analysis of the transformation of modern Ossetian society. Like many national republics of Russia, North Ossetia goes through a difficult period of self-identification: it lives through the remnants of the Soviet identity, returns to the Christian faith, experiences the influence of globalization and defends itself from it, turns to national traditions.
Part of the youth of North Ossetia, for whom returning to the past and following dogmas is close, groping for their own path in today’s world, shows rebellion in big and small issues: they choose the “unstable” creative professions of an artist, actor, musician (in Ossetia the traditions are still strong when parents choose a “stable” profession for their child), dye their hair into acidic colors, the guys wear long hair and earrings (even ten years ago one could be beaten for this), and the girls cut their hair close to skin or smoke openly (the society generally condemns smoking women), all together they make tattoos and yearn for change.
